The area of Rock Hill was originally settled by French fur traders setting up permanent homes near trading posts. The town of Rock Hill got its name from a Presbyterian minister who founded a church in the area; the story has it that he encountered two steep, rocky hills when scouting the site for his new congregation, and named the church accordingly. When the town was incorporated in the 1920s, the name stuck.

Rock Hill is located between interstates 64/40 and 44, making commuting relatively easy.

Rock Hill was recently voted the 7th safest city in Missouri.
